Keith Smith was named Chief Executive Officer of Boyd Gaming in January 2008.
He succeeded company founder Bill Boyd, who transitioned to the newly created
position of Executive Chairman.
Smith joined the Company as Corporate Controller in 1990 and was promoted to
Executive Vice President of Operations in 1998. In October 2001, Keith was again
promoted to Chief Operating Officer, and in 2005 he added the role of company
President.
A respected veteran of the gaming industry with 20 years of experience, Smith
serves as chairman of the Nevada Resort Association, Vice Chairman of the
American Gaming Association, and Vice Chairman of the Las Vegas Convention
and Visitors Authority. He also sits on the board of directors of the Federal
Reserve Bank’s Los Angeles branch, providing information and guidance on
Nevada’s economy to the Federal Reserve for use in making monetary policy
decisions. Smith is the first gaming industry executive to hold such a position at
the Federal Reserve.
Prior to joining Boyd Gaming, Smith served as Vice President of Finance for the
former Dunes Hotel and Casino, controller for the Tropicana Resort and Casino,
and financial analyst and casino accounting manager for Tropworld Casino.
Smith graduated from Arizona State University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree
in accounting. He is active in the United Way, the Boyd Gaming Political Action
Committee and the International Association of Hospitality Accountants.
He and his wife live in Las Vegas and have two children.
